Sunny “BEarth” Days

In the spring of 2011, I had the idea to create something that would help me share my love of languages better with my children and with the world. When I figured out what the name should be, I rushed, without thinking twice, to scoop up some domain names for Sunny Earth Academy. I honestly did not know what exactly I was going to do or where it would lead, but that name and idea were meant to be for me and my family. It was one of those moments in life where you just know you must do something, so you do it!

Since the “birth” of Sunny Earth Academy (which I fondly refer to as my “third child”) my family has connected with some really awesome, generous, innovative language lovers. One of these cherished connections is Nathalie Bonneau (a.k.a. Jeanne de la Lune). You know those people you meet and you just click? I feel we clicked from our first tweet!

Nathalie and I have yet to actually meet face to face, but twitter has brought us together and I am so grateful for that! She has brought so much fun to the lives of my children, I am thankful that I am able to tell her directly! She is the creator of some really amazing fun with French. In fact, just a couple hours ago, Géo was having some quiet tech-time and he chose to play with Nathalie’s robots. He likes to see how many he can get to move at the same time. Both children choose to play these Halloween and Christmas treasures, no matter what the season! And their all time favorite is Mimi la souris who has even turned into a story by Soleil.

I have been on the receiving end of wonderful generosity often…but even more so since I have started living this public social-media-rich life. No matter how many people give of their time and hard work freely, I am still deeply humbled, appreciative and sometimes down-right surprised. This was the case for my children’s  birthday cards from Nathalie. She has already given us countless hours and then Géo receives this eCard, created just for him.

Géo has gone through a lot lately (read more about Géo here) so I didn’t even consider the possibility that Soleil may get a special birthday card as well. I was surprised again, when Nathalie sent this link to Soleil.

Soleil and Géo watched and re-watched their cards at least a dozen times. We have opened them back up days, weeks, months later to watch them again. This always leads to one or both of the kids asking to play with Mimi la souris, of course!

What a very special gift for my children to see one of their all time favorite characters singing just for them on their birthday……and en français!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The children are learning that more than just Mommy speaks French…that there are very special people in their lives who speak French as well. This is the type of gift that keeps on giving. Merci, Nathalie! I hope that some day the children (and I) will be able to thank you, in person and en français for all that you have given us!!!!!!!!!
